The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) requires that people who work in certain industries wear respirators. These regulations are in place to protect the health of employees who are subject to working in conditions where the air is contaminated with vapors, harmful dusts, smokes and other atmospheric contaminants. As part of this regulation – Standard Number 1910.134 – all employees who will need a respirator must undergo a medical evaluation to ensure they are medically able to use such a respirator.
The medical evaluation process has been made much easier thanks to RapidMEQ. This online medical evaluation questionnaire allows employees to complete their medical evaluation from the comfort of their office. All responses are held in a strictly confidential manner and successful completion will enable the employee to move on to respirator fit testing. If you have any problems or questions, please contact your Respiratory Protection Program Administrator.
Most people certify just by completing this evaluation and do not need additional follow-up with a physician or other licensed health care professional.
This certification is for employees that are required to use one or all of the following:
- Disposable respirators with N, R, or P ratings
- Half mask air-purifying or atmosphere-supplying respirators
- Full facepiece air-purifying or atmosphere-supplying respirators
